"Do not say: 'I'll pay back evil for evil'; wait for ADONAI to save you." Mishlei (Proverbs) 20:22
"Do not rejoice when your enemy falls; do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles. For ADONAI might see it, and it would displease Him; He might withdraw His anger from your foe." Mishlei (Proverbs) 24:17,18
"Do not say, 'I'll do to him what he did to me, I'll pay him back what his deeds deserve." Mishlei (Proverbs) 24:29
"If someone who hates you is hungry, give him food to eat; and if he is thirsty, give him water to drink. For you will heap fiery coals on his head, and ADONAI will reward you." Mishlei (Proverbs) 25:21,22
"But I tell you not to stand up against someone who does you wrong. On the contrary, if someone hits you on the right cheek, let him hit you on the left cheek too!" Mattityahu (Matthew) 5:39
Vengeance is the LORD's, it does not belong to man. When we try to carry out a punishment with our own hands, we are taking on a role that doesn't belong to us: the role of a judge. The only true and perfect judge is God. We must act justly, but allow justice to be carried out by the Creator of the Law.
How then do we make our stand against evil? The best way to defeat evil is with being good, with kindness. Just like Yeshua did when He was on Earth. Revenge, resentment and hatred will make us vulnerable to sin and therefore, to commit atrocious actions. We must always shed the love that Yeshua gave to all humanity and leave everything in God's hands. For our God is a just God, and He will do justice for His people.
